Game 6 - Mavs Win!

I expect Victory tonight! I still like the Mavericks chances of winning it all - I just wish it didn't come down to 2 must win games. I told my wife before game 5 started I expected this to go 7 games, regardless of who won that game...So here we go.

What I don't understand is the difference of how each of the teams have played at home. Does Shaq have to sleep in a little kid bed when he travels or something? That big round Superman bed of his in Florida must be pretty good.

I think the Mavs win by 10 tonight. We shall see.

Mavericks...They can do it, but they aren't acting like it!

There are still 2 games left to prove that the Mavericks are the best team in the NBA. They act like they blew it last night.

In some ways they did. They blew the oppertunity to go up 3 games to 2 - and they completely lost their composure. I saw players make BAD mental mistakes, saw coaches make mistakes, and saw an owner make a mistake. The players probably regret it, the coach probably regrets it, but the owner is proud of it. If they had to do it all over again - Howard wouldn't have called a timout. Avery would have been calmer trying to signal the timout and would have been better with the press after the game. But not Cuban. He was so proud he lost his composure he backed it up by bragging that he thinks it's funny when his kid cusses. Money only takes you so far. It can buy you a lot of things...but it can't buy respect or class.

I agree with 95% of the things that Mark Cuban does - but every once and a while, I just wish he would say nothing at all. Sometimes, that can say more than any cuss word you throw out there.

Win with class...Lose with class.

But most important of all. Win 2 more games.

NFL Draft and Your Dallas Cowboys

I am a big fan of the NFL Draft. I watch enough college games to know many of the top players and I have enough idle time in the Spring to read up on the prospects. I watch NBA basketball, but not Hockey. I can't get into college basketball...so this is it.

In a perfect world, the Cowboys would end up with Michael Huff - but that would cost more than they are willing to pay. There are other Longhorns that could end up here also (Scott, Griffin, Thomas), but I am convinced the Cowboys will select an outside LB that can rush the passer. They have other needs, but those can be addressed later in the draft. You can find safeties and WR's in the 2nd and 3rd round, but you have a much harder time finding a true pass rusher. If you can pressure the passer, you don't need 2 Pro Bowl Safeties.

So here is what I hope happens...

#1 pick - Manny Lawson or Kam Wimbley (Wimbley will probably be gone)- pick a pass rusher or trade down ...Greenway will probably be gone...B. Carpenter is a possibility.
#2 pick - Eric Winston - pick the best tackle available (the Cowboys draft a lot of linemen in round 2) Others...Whitworth from LSU (Maybe a safety if one fell)
#3 safety or WR - Cedrick Griffin from UT could be moved to safety / maybe the kid from Abeline Christian. I also like Maurice Stovall (WR) from Notre Dame

I think at some point they will try to move down to pick up an extra 3rd or a 4th rounder. I would guess they will try to drop a few spots in the 1st round, but wouldn't be surprised if they dropped to the very end of the 1st round (trading with Pittsburg or JAX) to get a few picks at once.

Just don't drop 20+ spots like 2 years ago. It is too frustrating sitting there all day and your team doesn't take anybody.

Vince Young will go to the Titans, Jets, or Raiders. If he doesn't go to the Titans - I am hoping he goes to the Raiders. He was made for them.

Starting Over...

I originally started this to post things about playing Poker. Then I realized I can't talk about strategy or how I play and have my friends read it each week. I spend the time trying to get better, but I would rather not help the people I will be playing against. So I deleted quite a few things that I have posted in the past to see if I can get back to writing more often.

I will post my thoughts on the NFL Draft in the next few days.

2005 National Champions...TEXAS LONGHORNS

Something I have waiting my whole life for...a National Championship. The last time UT won it all was 1970. I was born in January of 1970. I started watching the Longhorns in 1976 when everyone talked about Earl Campbell. They came close to winning it in 1977, then again in the early 80's. I was starting to wonder if it was going to be a Boston Red Sox thing. Would I be 87 years old when they finally won? I will say, it was better than I thought it would be. I took a lot of pride in them fielding a top 10 team, but I thought OU would maintain their status for a few more years. The feeling was unbelievable. I enjoyed the Cowboys winning Superbowls, but this was even better.

I never attended UT, but I feel like I have more invested in them than 90% of the people who did. Most of the people that I know that went there didn't really cheer for them before they enrolled - so they have been fans since they were 18 or so. I have been a die hard fan since I was 6. I have always enjoyed the Baseball team winning it all, but there is nothing like being #1 in Football.
